Director of Clinical Development / Therapist

My Approach

When I was a defiant and moody teenager, my parents sought therapy for me. While I gravitate towards treating adults now, therapy was a place in which I felt supported and understood. I was able to learn great insight into how I tick and understand others’ perspectives.  It was through that experience that I was inspired to create an environment for others that was both validating and encouraging for personal growth.

I aim to establish a therapeutic relationship that enables my clients to move forward with their goals, whether it be their self-image, personal relationships, managing difficult emotions, or getting through an especially challenging life event. I pull from a number of different theories and therapeutic approaches. However, I believe that without a strong therapeutic relationship, no work can be done, thus that is my main focus.

I can appreciate that waving the white flag and taking the step to meet with a mental health professional is not an easy task for many. I applaud those who take the risk to open up to a therapist, ask for that outside perspective, and take the plunge inward to learn more about how they can meet their goals!

After graduating with my master’s in social work, I worked in community mental health, providing in-home therapy for families with children who were having difficulties with behavior and mental health. Following that, I worked alongside a psychiatrist in private practice for four and a half years. During that time, I was able to work with people through a diverse range of challenges. I completed intensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and sharpened my Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) skills.

How to do therapy. A therapist’s take on a client’s role in therapy

So, I’d like to start off by prefacing that what I’m presenting in this blog is from my own professional experience and what I have learned from other clinicians. It is likely slightly different for each therapist’s style and structure.  Well, it…

The Rabbits are Multiplying Like…Well, Rabbits

I have been asking myself, “Are there more rabbits this year or am I just paying more attention to wildlife?” Unless there’s some scientific anomaly going on, I assume the answer is the latter. I have seen memes circulating about quarantine turning…
