Riding the Wave, Together.
Really good therapy starts with really good therapists.
People you can trust, connect with, and actually want to
talk to.
Our StoryThird Wave started with one therapist and one belief.
In 2015, Bryan Landaas set out to create the kind of therapy practice he believed should exist: one where exceptional care could still feel warm, human, and personal. Where therapy wasn't a clinical obligation, but a meaningful investment in a life well-lived.
Bryan built Third Wave intentionally, from the clinicians he brought onto the team to the spaces where clients walked through the door.
When Bryan died from glioblastoma in 2022, his wife, Mandy, chose to carry forward what they had built together.
Today, Mandy leads Third Wave as CEO alongside a team of clinicians across the Triangle. Third Wave has grown far beyond that first therapist, but the belief behind it hasn't.
Your life is worth investing in. And you don't have to figure it all out alone.
What propels us
Great therapy is about more than what happens in session. These four values shape the people we hire, the care we provide, and the experience
we create.
01.
Intentionality
Nothing here is by accident. From the therapists we hire to the spaces we create, we pay attention to the details that make really great care feel personal.
02.
COurage
Growth asks us to do hard things. We'll encourage you to go there when it matters, support you while you do it, and never expect you to do
it alone.
03.
Authenticity
You shouldn't have to perform in therapy. Come as you are. We'll meet you there. Real connection starts when you can be fully yourself.
04.
Creativity
We approach change with curiosity, always looking for better ways to support the people we serve.
Our approach
We don't believe therapy is only for when things fall apart.
It's a place to understand yourself better, strengthen your relationships, work through what's keeping you stuck, and build skills for whatever life brings next.
Because the goal isn't a life without waves. It's feeling more equipped to ride them when they come.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy
Third Wave Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is more than a treatment model. It’s part of the philosophy that informs our practice.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) changed mental health care by recognizing the connection between our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Third-wave approaches build on that foundation by incorporating concepts like acceptance, mindfulness, personal values, and psychological flexibility.
Rather than focusing only on changing difficult thoughts or eliminating uncomfortable emotions, approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) help people develop a different relationship with their inner experience, while learning to take meaningful action toward the life they want to live.
Our clinicians draw from a range of evidence-based and evidence-informed approaches, including CBT, ACT, DBT, ERP, EFT, IFS, and EMDR, depending on each client's needs, goals, and preferences. What connects our work isn't one specific treatment model, but a shared belief that therapy should go beyond short-term symptom relief to help create meaningful change in your relationships, decisions, and daily life.
Just humans helping humans.
Great therapists never stop learning. Across Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Garner, and telehealth, our clinicians bring training in approaches including CBT, ACT, DBT, EMDR, IFS, ERP, and EFT, supported by ongoing clinical consultation, supervision, and continuing education.
But training is only part of what makes therapy work. The relationship you have with your therapist matters, too.
That's why we put so much thought into finding the right fit. We take time to understand what you're looking for and help you find someone whose expertise, approach, and personality feel like a good fit.
Because you don't need a therapist who just knows what they're doing. You need one you can actually talk to.
From guided journals to specialized trainings to clinicians to swag ready to ride the wave, we’ve got you covered.
