Brittany Thompson, LCSW
“Make a tiny hole with your mouth and see how long you can make the ‘ssss’ sound,” the therapist said. “Remember, you want to get up to five seconds.” “Ssss”—two seconds, two, three, four, four… five. That was the beginning of my recovery. I had lost language and had to learn all over again, to shape my mouth to form words. I’ve reshaped my entire life, and I, as a therapist will help others reshape theirs.
I am intrigued with the idea of evolution and change. I have seen people’s capacity to step outside of themselves, float up to the ceiling, look down, realize that they can change, and change.
I am a licensed psychotherapist located in Durham, offering therapy to a diverse group of adults with differing ages, beliefs & cultures, and goals for treatment. Working from a psychodynamic orientation with a relational approach, I strive to find balance and work toward the change an individual desires. I specialize in DBT as well as CBT for anxiety & depression, and continue to train in new treatment and research in the field.
I believe the therapeutic relationship is a key determinant in the process & outcome of therapy. I welcome speaking over the phone briefly to begin exploring if we’d be a good fit to work together.
